“Never doubt that a small group of thoughtful, committed, citizens can change the world. Indeed, it is the only thing that ever has.”

Despite conclusive scientific evidence, a health enthusiast discovers there is a reluctance to enact bills that would promote a plant-based, whole-foods diet as they are deemed detrimental to corporate interest.
Nelson Campbell, inspired by the work of his father, Dr. Colin J Campbell, author of the world renowned book, *The China Study and whose work is discussed in the documentary Forks Over Knives, recruits participants from a town in North Carolina to what he calls the ‘PlantPure Jumpstart Programme’. After impressive results, the programme is trialled in multiple locations, with the same positive outcomes. However, the truth about nutrition is suppressed by lobbyists, leaving Campbell with only one option- to take the truth directly to the people so they can all be part of the ‘PlantPure Nation.’
The Vegan Bit
The evidence to support a whole-foods plant based diet is significant and growing all the time. For some, however, particularly those in positions of power, this is not enough. Factually accurate findings which could benefit those who voted them in, are rebuffed by underlying corporate influences who seek to profit from people’s hunger for meat and dairy products, irrespective of the consequences.
In addition, a healthier population would have a detrimental effect on the pharmaceutical market. At the time of the making of PlantPure Nation, 70% of people in United States were taking 1 form of medication and 20% were on 5 or more. According to a report carried out by The Business Research Company, the global pharmaceuticals market will reach $1170 billion by 2021. The business of illness too, is a lucrative one.
The results of the first Jump Start Project alone, in the so-called ‘Stroke Belt’, demonstrated the power eating plants can have in just 10 days. How all this relates to veganism is obvious. But in addition, as many vegans will testify to, there is reluctance from non-vegans to accept certain facts, something that is reflected here, albeit for different reasons. Perhaps the most powerful take home message from PlantPure Nation is that if government and big business don’t want to change society for the better, then we must do it ourselves.
