In One Sentence What Is Live And Let Live About?

A vegan documentary exploring the reasons behind why some people no longer consume animal based food products.

Brief Synopsis

A less hardline approach is taken than many other documentaries that have a vegan theme. Instead of graphic films and images of animals being slaughtered or mistreated, the film’s makers use interviews with those who have converted to veganism and look at the ethical and moral reasons for doing so.

People from all walks of life discuss how they arrived at the decision to become vegan, what it makes them feel and how it’s been beneficial. Academics from various disciplines touch on the moral and ethical problems eating meat poses and why there is a mental disconnect between the food on the fork and the animal in the abattoir.

The Trailer

Why Is Live And Let Live A Vegan Documentary?

Unlike some documentaries which have vegan themes or elements to them, this film is about veganism. It’s about why people become vegans. It’s about the thought processes they have gone through and some of the obstacles they have faced and overcome. And no doubt some of these will resonate with anyone thinking of doing the same.

The film’s content attempts to tackle some of the belief systems that are ingrained in the human psyche, namely the idea that it is normal to eat meat. Indeed, that the eating of meat is essential for healthy human growth and development is also scrutinised.

There is an innate human arrogance in thinking that we as a species are superior to all others. And even if that were true, then surely there is a responsibility to protect rather than persecute. I’m sure the pigs living happily in a German sanctuary for rescued animals would rather enjoy a belly rub from a caring hand than have that same belly rubbed with seasoning and shoved in an oven for a couple of hours.
